4 stars from me as well.
Omg, this episode is such a hard watch. As soon as they said they were going to go to the submarine, I was like, "Oh, no, no, no, no." Dammit, I cried again and even harder when Kate, Hurley, and Jack started crying. Not nearly as bad as the first time I saw this ep. Man, I was bawling my eyes out when this first aired. And seeing Jin run by Jack with flowers in his hand in the flash-sideways made fresh tears start up.
RIP Sayid, who, though having been brought back mostly dead inside, managed to grab onto the shred of feelings he had left inside, thanks to the incredible bond they all had for each other, in order to sacrifice himself so that they might have a chance. It was a noble end worthy of Sayid who'd been brought back not fully himself.
RIP Jin and Sun. So heartbreaking. Constantly torn apart and having to find their way back to each other. Such a tragic end to what was apparently a doomed love. I feel so bad for their little girl, left behind to be raised by Sun's horrible parents, particularly cruel father.
Frank Lapidus, we have no idea if he made it out or not and are made to wait and see what his fate was.
MIB, I hate you so much. You suck! Leave our Losties alone!
The flash-sideways had so many things! Jack is realizing a strange connection to Oceanic Flight 815. Everyone he crosses paths with seems to have been on the exact same flight as he'd been on.
Loved seeing Bernard in the flash-sideways! He strangely seemed to know what Jack wanted. I wonder if he had the same "awakening" to the other world as Desmond and some of the others have had and is helping to guide.
Anthony Cooper, I'm sorry, but I have no pity for you being a vegetable in a wheelchair, just as you'd made your own son after using him in the other reality. Karma's a bitch.
The scene at the end with Jack and Locke talking, they said a lot of the same lines they'd said back in the hatch, only in reverse; Jack saying some lines that Locke had said to him and vice versa. A sort of mirror image to the Orientation episode scene.
Of course, Jack demonstrates again his strong fixation with fixing people, basically straight up addictive need to, even literally telling Locke he can "fix him". He definitely crosses a line by seeking out Locke's dental records, then tracking down Anthony Cooper. He just can't let go and walk away.
The music box that Claire shows Jack plays "Catch a Falling Star" which is the song that Claire asked the adoptive parents in season 1 to sing to her baby.
And of course, of all the snackies in the machine, Jack gets an Apollo bar.
Favorite quotes/moments:
Sawyer's quick reflexes with getting the gun from "Doughboy"
(Sound of the smoke monster coming their direction)
Hurley: And we're dead...
SUN: Go... Please! Go.
JIN: I won't leave you. I will never leave you again...
