"It's clearly a female island. It's both beautiful and gives life. Harsh but fair. Doesn't put up with any of our shit. Just seems feminine to me. Sure there is some kind of monster on it that could just come and turn us all into chew toys at any moment of its choosing but it doesn't. I'm not trying to be all hippie 'Mother Nature Maaaan it like nurtures us' but there are populated places that give less than this islands given us." "Just like all the islands we could of crashed on with out monsters or whispers or ghosts... I'm beginning to sound like Locke aren't I? just forget I said anything."
"Jeez it sounds like you're giving me a speech on climate change or something," Linda retorted with a playful nasally chuckle as she loaded the last few essentials into her bag, " No no, it was good. You should take over David Attenborough's job and lead on the fine commentaries of this island once we leave this place and the media begins to make profit off of it," Linda grinned, as she opened Stu's palm and gently placed an apple in his hand, "I am sure the world will be dying to hear of your secrets. Survivor spills all of the mysterious, haunted island on which he crashed upon. A tell all might even make some good profit. I say you're set for life," Linda grinned as she shrugged her shoulders, throwing the bag over one as she turned to Stu, "You ready? Or the island monster giving you second thoughts?" She shed a wink in his direction as she turned around in place and started to head to the treeline.

"You ready? Or the island monster giving you second thoughts?"
Stu watched as Linda walked off towards the the monster filled jungle.
"I speak candidly for 30 seconds and she gives me shit." Stu mumbled to himself as he began to trail behind Linda towards the unknown.

"Can you make anything out of it, Doc?"
Derek was barely looking up from the journey when a more or less familiar voice returned. Gabe seemed to be a good and helpful guy, but Derek was wary of him, mostly because he seemed very wary in general. Just when he was going to reply to the question, with no intention of giving them his full thoughts on it just yet, Heidi intervened with something that brought a questioning look like 'uh, excuse me?' to his face.
"Does it say anything about the T-Rex?""You know, the thing that knocks down trees...let's out spine-tingling roars... I mean, I know it's not really a dinosaur... unless we crash landed in 'Land of the Lost' or 'The Lost World',"
Derek had heard Linda talking about monsters already, but, even though she had seemed to be serious about it after a joke just like Heidi's, he had filed it to hallucinations due to the sun and just circumstances. But hearing it again, now from somebody else, actually made him wonder some more. Instead of letting these thoughts show on his features though, Derek replied the slight smirk with one of his own. "Well, I know barely anything about dinosaurs, but-" He paused, looking down the journey again. It definitely told about some interesting things. Then he turned his gaze back towards Heidi, ignoring Gabe for now. "Would you mind if I keep this for a while? My ancient Egyptian is a bit rusty, and this here is really full of difficult letters." His Egyptian was actually not too rusty, but he'd prefer studying this along with the notes of his own journey, alone.

"Well, I know barely anything about dinosaurs, but-- Would you mind if I keep this for a while? My ancient Egyptian is a bit rusty, and this here is really full of difficult letters."
"You would think if the author ran up on our tree-toppling friend, they definitely would have written about in their diary," Gabe observed. "I guess it's a good sign that someone had the time to write and draw in that thing. It wouldn't really be a priority if they were running for their lives or barely surviving." He assumed the archaeologist would have to agree. A society would have to have its basic needs met -- water, food, shelter -- before it was able to focus on poetry and pictures. Not that any of them needed to stay on the island for that long.

"...Would you mind if I keep this for a while? My ancient Egyptian is a bit rusty, and this here is really full of difficult letters."
"Yah, sure," I said without hesitation. "As long as you don't mind me bugging you for updates," I said with a slightly sheepish grin as I knew I might become borderline bothersome now that I'd finally found someone who could translate on top of the fact that I had nothing much else to entertain me.
"You would think if the author ran up on our tree-toppling friend, they definitely would have written about in their diary," "I guess it's a good sign that someone had the time to write and draw in that thing. It wouldn't really be a priority if they were running for their lives or barely surviving."
I looked toward Gabe and nodded over those two very good points. "So, it's something that didn't show up until after the author's time here," I guessed. "I've flipped through that journal many times and don't recall seeing drawings of any...animals," I decided on as 'monster' didn't seem fitting when we were having a discussion regarding what that thing might be in reality. But my statement needed correcting. "Well, there are some animal sketches, but none of the tree-toppling variety."
I glanced back at Derek. "I take it you were lucky enough to not have crossed paths with it while you made your way through there to find us," I asked rhetorically with a tilt of my head toward the jungle. Surely if he had, he'd have made mention of it. "Didn't come across any abnormally large footprints or evidence of something really big having moved through?"
Normally, I was like everyone else seemed to be about it; ignoring its existence and not discussing it. But since the topic was out there, I suddenly really badly wanted to know what it was because a big part of the fear was not knowing.

Derek agreed with Gabe's assumption with a silent, rather absent-looking nod. Only when Heidi added more thoughts to that, addressing him with something regarding his time before they had run into him, he looked up with a clearer mind again, closing the journey in his hands also.
"I take it you were lucky enough to not have crossed paths with it while you made your way through there to find us,""Didn't come across any abnormally large footprints or evidence of something really big having moved through?"
He guessed her question was rhetorically, so he kept his answer sarcastically, smirking slightly again. "No. Not crossing paths with Bigfoot or Godzilla yet, either." Despite Derek actually believing in the island being a mystical place, monsters weren't really what he expected to meet at any time here. "Well then," Derek added before one of them could say anything more, already making actions to get up, "If you don't mind, I'm gonna back out for a little while. The sun's really heavy today."

"No. Not crossing paths with Bigfoot or Godzilla yet, either. Well then, if you don't mind, I'm gonna back out for a little while. The sun's really heavy today."
"No worries, doc," Gabe complied with a nod. "I'll be happy to save some work for you whenever you get bored with that book." A nagging thought tugged at the back of his mind; shouldn't an archaeologist be used to sunny, hot places? Oh well, the work probably wasn't all like Indiana Jones. Maybe the guy was just politely ducking out of the conversation and/or the chore that Gabe had given them.
"You can run along, too, y'know," he offered to Heidi. "It won't hurt my feelings."

I nodded both in understanding and agreement regarding the sun. I was starting to feel the effects of it; a little off-kilter, hint of a headache starting up, energy draining out of me...
"You can run along, too, y'know," "It won't hurt my feelings."
I grinned, wondering if it was even possible for someone to hurt his feelings. "And rob you of my company? I could never be so cruel," I joked in feigned adamance, then spoke on a more serious note, looking for any kind of distraction and way to pass the time. "I'd love some kind of task, preferably something I can do in the shade, though? The sun's always been a real energy-vampire to me," I explained as I glanced toward the bamboo that he'd been showing others how to weave earlier, thinking I could pick up where they left off on that.

The rest of Day 15 passes by. It is now:
Day 16 - Morning

After another night of not much sleep, Gabe was back to work not long after the sun had risen over the ocean. The shelter now included two walls -- one of metal and one of bamboo -- and a roof of blue plastic, angled enough so that the rain would fall off rather than pool there and cause it to collapse. The in-progress structure had proven to be good cover from the wind and sun so far, and he hoped a third wall would give it even more stability and protection.
To that end, he was weaving more bamboo chutes together and had enlisted Heidi's help when he'd run into her at the communal pile of fruit. If he could keep her mind and hands occupied, she wouldn't have time to be worried or afraid. And maybe he was doing the same for himself.
"You heard anything from the Professor this morning?" Gabe inquired. "And no, I did not mean that as a 'Gilligan's Island' reference."

Sitting in a bit of shade from the tree near the shore, I continued on yesterday's task of weaving bamboo chutes together as Gabe had instructed. Repetitive tasks like this were my forte and I tended to get really fast at them as I got the hang of it.
I glanced over at Sarah every now and again, companionably close enough for Sarah to deem me as hanging out with her as she did her own thing, building her millionth sandcastle as she got lost in her imaginative thoughts.
I was lost in my own thoughts, trying to figure out what day of the week it was. Definitely felt near the end of a week; maybe Thursday or Friday? I was either missing out on meeting up with my mom for a movie or meeting up with my bestie for Disneyland after work.
"You heard anything from the Professor this morning?" "And no, I did not mean that as a 'Gilligan's Island' reference."
Gabe's voice broke through my thoughts, making me realize I'd been sadly frowning as I looked down to my task. Quickly putting a grin back on, easily done with his funny reference, I momentarily glanced to him and said, "Nah, I saw him absorbed in it this morning and didn't wanna break his concentration. Figured I'd wait for him to come to me..." I glanced over to where I last saw Derek, seeing he was still absorbed and hadn't moved, "or until I run out of other stuff to keep me entertained." I raised the bamboos I was weaving as said form of 'entertainment'.
Half distracted with my task, I didn't realize until I was a bar into it that I was humming the 'Gilligan's Island' theme song. "Dammit, that's gonna be in my head all day," I said, shooting him a mock accusatory glare. "Though 'Island in the Sun' has been stuck in my head for like a week, so thank you, I guess?" I said, trying to be funny by overexaggerating the sarcasm and adding a shrug.

Dammit, that's gonna be in my head all day. Though 'Island in the Sun' has been stuck in my head for like a week, so thank you, I guess?"
"Well, I live to serve," Gabe commented with a wry grin. He was glad that Heidi seemed to be in a good mood, her mind occupied with a mundane task rather than nightmares of what might be waiting in the jungle. He paused to observe their handiwork. "It's no Four Seasons, but it should keep out the wind and rain," he proclaimed. "For as many as can fit. We build a couple more, we'll have our own little condo complex by the sea."
Then his mind turned back to the sitcom discussion at hand. "Y'know, I still don't understand why Ginger had all those gowns packed for a three-hour tour. Was she going somewhere afterward or...?"

I glanced over to also take in the progress. It was definitely far better than I thought was possible when deserted on an island with makeshift tools or workarounds.
"Y'know, I still don't understand why Ginger had all those gowns packed for a three-hour tour. Was she going somewhere afterward or...?"
I chuckled, tying off another knot. "I think I was too distracted by the miracles they performed with tech. The Professor must have really been a wizard the whole time." Recalling their living quarters, I glanced back at our shelters jokingly thinking the opposite of what I'd first thought of them. "And remember their fancy huts? With four walls, a roof, a door... and hammock beds..." I said in envy. Mental images started flooding back. "And furniture! They fully furnished their huts and even built an entire dining table complete with chairs! Ha, and let's not forget about the stage. We really need to step it up." I chuckled, shaking my head at how it all felt even more unbelievable now that I found myself in the same situation they'd been in.

"Well, I'm thinking a more minimalist concept," Gabe countered. "In keeping with my Scandinavian heritage. When Sayid gets back, we'll have to ask him if there's an IKEA on the other side of the island." Heidi's talk of tables and chairs made him think of family gatherings -- the ones that he had already missed and the ones that he was likely to. But as usual, he kept his tone sarcastic rather than solemn.
"I sure hope rescue gets here before Thanksgiving," Gabe remarked. "Can you imagine trying to set a table for all these people? And not having things come to blows?"

My stomach sank at the thought of still being here nearly two months more, but I concentrated on the funny picture he painted rather than letting the worry get to me. My usual 'one-day-at-a-time' attitude also helped me to push aside worries of the future after determining a worry as such.
"At this point, I can't imagine going a full day without at least two people coming to a blow," I said dryly with a shake of my head. So much drama, so many disagreements.
Apparently, the thought of still being here during Thanksgiving had clung onto my mind as I found myself wracking through my movie and show knowledge, but couldn't recall much information on this particular topic. Probably because storylines revolving around ship-and plane-wrecks weren't my usual go-to.
I glanced up at him from my weaving. "You think they'll still be looking for us then?" I asked, taking the topic to a more serious direction though keeping the tone conversational. "I mean, there's a time limitation to search parties..." I was more curious over how this all worked than worrisome as again, nothing to worry about today as they'd still be searching today.

"Well, with no boats or planes on the horizon, it's clear we're not in a shipping lane," Gabe said plainly, wishing to be realistic rather than negative. "It's not likely someone's gonna' stumble upon this island or see the signal fires. Oceanic will search as long as it's financially feasible. Same for the military or government of all the people onboard. Some with more resources than others. With an international pop star like Jinx among the passengers, it should keep our story in the headlines for a while."

Linda had stumbled into a conversation that she would much not have in this moment. So much has conspired within the last few days that everyone had spent together. Much had been thought over, over what was, is and yet to come. She did not want to become a burden of her brother, as he had much to deal with now with the Claire situation at afoot. She made herself sparse, sparse enough to find herself yet again back at the beach with the rest of the crew. Linda still kept the newcomer in the back of her mind, as it was a rare yet curious occurrence. But she could not let that bother her much. For now, she would distract herself with conversations that took place before her, ones which she hoped to contribute much to,
"Could you imagine?" Linda interjected herself into the closest conversation to her, holding her hands out like a frame, "Oceanic 815 missing, the one and only Jinx onboard, alive or dead?" Linda smiled at herself as she smirked inwardly, her gaze panning back and right from Gabe to Heidi, "Bad joke?" Linda pondered, as she sank criss crossed beside Heidi.

I let out a single dry laugh. "Unfortunately, a sad reality that I'm sure is playing out. And Charlie, also!" I recalled as his sister settled onto the sand beside me. "Two pop stars. This is media gold to them," I said with a shake of my head. I glanced down and continued weaving as I spoke. "I guess the good thing about that is that they'll probably keep the search going for longer," I hypothesized. There had to be far more attention on this particular crash than others I'd seen passively mentioned and seemingly forgotten by the headline following it.

"Might be the first time most of us have actually wanted the government looking for us," Gabe quipped, after greeting Linda's arrival with a nod and a smile. The British girl seemed to have a dark sense of humor much like his own, but maybe it was a bit too early in the day for the usual gallows humor. Instead he tried to turn things in a hopeful direction.
“Imagine what it'll be like after we're rescued. Everyone wantin' to know our story. The interviews, magazine covers, late night talk shows. We'll be dodging paparazzi like Heidi has to do all the time back home in Hollywood," he remarked. "I wonder if Tom Cruise would play me in the movie....?"

Linda couldn't even imagine how nerve wracking that would be. For the media to proclaim them instant celebrities, shoving cameras and microphones down everyone's throats. Crashing on an island wasn't all that spectacular, but Linda supposed surviving and living to tell the tale was a bit of a big deal in itself, "Tom Cruise?" Linda asked in a questioning tone before taking a few seconds, giving Gabe a surveying look before giving a few nods of her head, "Yeah, I guess I can see it! Though that would be kind of weird, to have someone else playing you - reenacting the stuff we've been through here. They wouldn't even have the slightest idea," Linda said as she thought about it. Especially the unexplained monsters and polar bears in the jungle, "Would people even believe the things we've seen?" Linda asked, opening the question up to her company.

“Imagine what it'll be like after we're rescued. Everyone wantin' to know our story. The interviews, magazine covers, late night talk shows.
Shit. He was right. I hadn't thought about that. The two celebrities would get a majority of the attention, but until the newness of our return wore off, we'd all be stuck with some of it. Uncomfortable with the attention of strangers, I cringed at the thought.
We'll be dodging paparazzi like Heidi has to do all the time back home in Hollywood," "I wonder if Tom Cruise would play me in the movie....?"
"Tom Cruise?" "Yeah, I guess I can see it! Though that would be kind of weird, to have someone else playing you - reenacting the stuff we've been through here. They wouldn't even have the slightest idea," "Would people even believe the things we've seen?"
I chuckled at Gabe and Linda's back and forth, looking up from my work to also assess Gabe like Linda had, pondering whilst I continued my weaving and listened whilst running through some actors' faces in my mind.
I shook my head. "I doubt it. Even if every single one of us divulges everything we've seen here," some might not speak or even deny over the fear of being thought crazy or simply would prefer to be in denial, "I'm not sure they'll believe us. They'd probably believe it was a group hoax over it being fact." Having just passed my look from Linda to Gabe, I tilted my head slightly as an actor came to mind. "Hm, Matt Damon," I said, gesturing to Gabe.
I looked to Linda, trying to access which actress could play her when my eyes were drawn to the pad of paper and pen that lay forgotten in her hands. Seeing the names of fellow passengers along with writing next to each name had my humor melting into curiosity and a little concern over why she was collecting information. The last time someone did that, it was for the memorial service, but the few names I picked up on at a glance were alive and well. "Trying to get to know our fellow survivors?" I asked, eyes going back to the pad.

"Trying to get to know our fellow survivors?
Linda looked down at the piece of scribbled paper in her hands, almost forgetting it was there before looking back up to Heidi with a swift nod. She had nothing to hide, and if people around the camp were avid to give their personal information then she would be willing to be fourth wright with the situation at hand, "Just trying to jot down everyone that was on the flight. Where they were going, what their intentions were and all," Linda explained before letting out an exasperated sigh before her legs fell criss crossed before them, "Just trying to make sense of it all. How could someone want to purposely invoke harm on Claire? Jack thinks she's delirious because of her state. But I..., I mean, from what we have witnessed so far, it doesn't all seem so far fetched, does it? What if someone is really trying to hurt her? And if it starts with her, who knows what could happen to all of us? Are we really starting to turn on one another?" Linda asked, her heavy eyes darted from Heidi to Gabe in search of answers.

"I doubt it. Even if every single one of us divulges everything we've seen here. I'm not sure they'll believe us. They'd probably believe it was a group hoax over it being fact. ... Hm, Matt Damon."
"Matt Damon? That Bourne Identity guy?" Gabe repeated with skepticism. Yet another movie that made a spy's life look a lot more exciting than it actually was. "Eh, I guess I could do worse." He shrugged and went back to weaving as the two women talked.
"Trying to get to know our fellow survivors?"
"Just trying to jot down everyone that was on the flight. Where they were going, what their intentions were and all. Just trying to make sense of it all. Well, now Linda had his full attention. A report of violence among the survivors sent a chill down his spine. It was a bit early to start going 'Lord of the Flies' around here. It didn't occur to him, at least not yet, to be concerned about how he was going to answer the questions she might start asking of him.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Gabe uttered calmly, holding up a cautionary hand in an effort to slow or stall Linda's spiral. "Hang on, hit rewind there, Lois Lane. What happened to Claire? She okay?"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," "Hang on, hit rewind there, Lois Lane. What happened to Claire? She okay?"
Linda clued in. How could she not have known? Of course, not everyone had been living at the caves the way Linda and her brother had been. It was apparent that the news hadn't spread widely to the beach squatters quite yet. She took a deep breath, before giving an affirming nod, "Yes. Claire is fine," Linda reassured those in her presence, "She's been having real bad night terrors. Except she's convinced that someone is out to harm her...and the baby," Linda treaded carefully with the information as she tried to assess the reactions that she was receiving, "For all we know, and according to Jack, it might just be related to stress...but what if it isn't? Who in their right mind would want to harm a woman about to give birth?" Linda eluded, before continuing onward, "That's where I come in. I've been trying to survey everyone in hopes to find their truest intentions. But, I am not so sure myself If I am going about it right." Linda heaved a sigh, in hopes to receive some sort of advice from the council at hand.

"...How could someone want to purposely invoke harm on Claire? Jack thinks she's delirious because of her state. But I..., I mean, from what we have witnessed so far, it doesn't all seem so far fetched, does it? What if someone is really trying to hurt her? And if it starts with her, who knows what could happen to all of us? Are we really starting to turn on one another?"
I found myself in shocked silence over the mention of Claire having been attacked, my brain torn between trying to find some rational and wondering if Linda was making a weird joke. Either option didn't make sense but as Linda explained further and the horrifying realization that Claire believed she'd been attacked was real, I found my brain starting to unscramble. Delirium or not, what a horrible thing to experience.
"Wait, what?" I finally said in slight horrification the same time Gabe spoke up.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," "Hang on, hit rewind there, Lois Lane. What happened to Claire? She okay?"
"Yes. Claire is fine," "She's been having real bad night terrors. Except she's convinced that someone is out to harm her...and the baby," "For all we know, and according to Jack, it might just be related to stress...but what if it isn't? Who in their right mind would want to harm a woman about to give birth?" "That's where I come in. I've been trying to survey everyone in hopes to find their truest intentions. But, I am not so sure myself If I am going about it right."
The panic and fear that had initially struck me was mostly snuffed out as I, too, was leaning more toward it having being night terrors. Why would anyone here want to harm anyone, especially a pregnant woman? And besides being pregnant, she was friendly and sweet and totally non-threatening.
I shook my head at a loss, leaning toward thinking Jack was right. "Learning more about everyone can't hurt, but if someone is really trying to harm Claire, I highly doubt they'll be truthful when surveyed."
That little seed of fear and panic still bumping around my brain, searching for proof of Claire's claim regrettably landed on something. I was reminded of the vocation of a passenger we'd lost in the first few days. I couldn't recall hearing any information on whether the guy he'd been escorting had also died or what it was he'd been wanted for. Shifting uncomfortably, some of the worry showing on my expression, I looked between Gabe and Linda, but mostly to Gabe who seemed more instinctively aware of his surroundings and the people in it. "Did we ever find out who'd been with the Marshall?"

"Learning more about everyone can't hurt, but if someone is really trying to harm Claire, I highly doubt they'll be truthful when surveyed. ... Did we ever find out who'd been with the Marshall?"
"Pretty sure we didn't," Gabe answered, following the same logical train as Heidi. If there was violence against a survivor, the prime suspect would be whoever was wearing those handcuffs. And if Jack had found out while he was treating the Marshal, he hadn't seen fit to share that information with the rest of them. And Heidi had another point -- anyone Linda spoke to, could easily lie to her. Even if she took the extra step to look at someone's passport or ID, those could be forged.
"The caves are pretty close quarters," Gabe observed. "Nobody else saw or heard anything?" The supporting word of one or two witnesses would easily prove whether the danger was all in Claire's head or not.
