*** Jewel "enters" from Oasis - Open Play Meadow ***With a happy smile, spreading from ear to ear, Jewel removed the helmet from her head. She couldn't remember the last time she had felt this way. Maybe she never had, at least not exactly this way; Which way whatever that was. Jewel freed herself from all the equipment, rather tossing it all around the place, before reaching out to the iPod under her pillow, placing the headphones in her ears, and turning on one of her favorite songs, soon singing along to 'My favorite things'. In thoughts, she was adding a place to her own little list of favorite things, along with a melody played with the most beautiful instrument; And a name. Peter.

When Brian came home from his late shift, finding the door of his training room open, same as slight chaos inside and his OASIS equipment gone, he got a good shock. Not so much because they might have gotten robbed but, first of all, because of worries about his daughter. So his first impulse was to look after her, hopefully being upstairs.
As soon as Brian heard loud music coming from out of her room, he eased again. Very carefully and quietly, he opened the door to Jewel's room, finding her lying on the bed with earphones around her head and singing along. She might not be Hollywood's next superstar, but she surely was his little superstar. Jewel didn't notice him since her eyes were closed. Just when Brian was going to leave her to herself again, something lying on the ground caught his eye; His OASIS equipment. He had to smile and shake his head in amusement. That also explained the chaos. One might think a lovely and diligent girl like Jewel wouldn't be capable of that, but she could leave a good mess behind, especially when in search of something.
Brian closed the door as quietly as he had opened it and went back downstairs. Actually, he'd almost been about to sell all that stuff but seeing her so happy after she seemed to have gone on adventures there made him not want to do so anymore. After weeks of sadness, for reasons she wouldn't talk about, Brian was just glad to see Jewel getting back to her old self.

*** Thursday, September 18th, 2070. Early afternoon. ***
It took three or four times of ringing until Brian realized it was his phone that was the cause for his dreams changing into an unnerving setting. Not that it wouldn't have been unnerving already before. Ever since he could remember, Brian had these bloody nightmares. Fortunately, he didn't remember any of his dreams well enough to have them last on his mind for more than a few seconds after he started from them. Beep.A muffled yet deeply annoyed sigh followed the sound of the switching to the answering machine before a familiar female voice joined in. "You're some thick bollocks, Brian. For eff's sake. Can't be so hard to pick up yer bleedin phone for once. I know ye won't call back anyway, so I don't even ask for that. Was just goin' to give ye a heads-up for the job interview I got ye. I hope you remember it'll be on Monday, means... this next upcomin' Monday. Just thought ye might need a bit of lead time to... I don't know... maybe makin' yourself presentable, takin' one or two wee showers, gettin' back into a human daily rhythm, these kinda things. Oh wait, there's more: Will ye please not feck that up by sleepin' in? Will be me who they blame. Okay, Brian, love ye. Take care."Beep.While anyone else might have wondered about the words of endearment following right after such a caustic message, Brian did not at all. Nor was he taking any of her words insulting. This was just their way of talking to each other. Raised in Ireland, that was nothing too unusual or even concerning. The more people liked each other, the more they dared to say uncomfortable things without risking the other to take them too personally. Or maybe it was yet them, after all. Who knew and who cared? Still a little bit hazy from sleep, Brian raised his head slightly, meeting eyes with the cat resting on the sofa armrest right next to him. It seemed that the room had been flooded with light already a while ago. While Brian had been used to be an early bird person once, he was so not that kind lately. Without a current job and the duty to keep the house clean for at least the sake of someone else around, things had started to become less important, and so his motivation less attendant. If not for the worries about losing the house and, above all, the capacity to bear the expense of Jewel's hospital stay, Brian might not have allowed his sister Cara to help him out with his job situation. Yet still, she probably was the only person who he ever received help from at all. With a long yawn and a clunk of his muscles, Brian sat up. He had no freaking idea which day of the week it was, but judging by his sister's call, he would guess it was leaning towards the end of it. Thursday or Friday, maybe. Another yawn, almost in sync with the cat, before he finally rose from the couch, feeling like he had been lying around for days. Well, that might be the truth, except for the few hours a day where he would actually leave the house to visit his daughter in the hospital. The couch, however, had already become his sleeping place three years ago. Ever since the day, the full-sized bed upstairs had been left with only one side to use. And now that the whole upper floor was a no-go area to him, because it was too difficult to deal with, it had become his one and only living place as well. Brian started to get ready. For now, that meant something like making himself look semi-presentable. "You hold the fort, will ye?" he spoke in the cat's direction, it answering with just another yawn, before Brian grabbed the keys from the living room table and headed outside. He was - thanks to Cara's call - a lot earlier for his daily routine of leaving the house. Well, it was not like he had to announce his visits. And even if that was the case, Brian most probably still wouldn't give a shit. *** Brian exits to Columbus Neuroscience Center ***
