"There is not a doubt about it. Rose has fallen under the curse."
"The curse?"
Unlike Phillip, the pirate didn't verbalize a question but instead only glanced at her, questioning indeed though. He was quite sure she would explain without them having to ask for further information.
"There's another curse?"
And again, the boy verbalized what had been going through Killian's mind as well. Another curse was far from good news. Again, he waited for further explanation, still focusing on Maleficent.
"A very old one,""One put upon her when she was just a babe, by an angry and vengeful fairy."
So, another curse only for the princess. Good for Etta and him, probably, but he felt bad for his friend, whose features started to falter immediately before they changed into something that set him on an alarm.
"You..."
Killian wasn't sure yet what was happening, until he completely had internalized what Maleficent had just told them. The vengeful fairy... It must have been herself.
The pirate still stood still, quietly, but readied himself to intervene in case Phillip would be trying something stupid. They needed Maleficent's help to get them, after all. Unfortunately, the boy was much faster than he'd expected. It seemed that their years of training together had bore fruit, and probably also rubbed off badly on the prince. However, the dark fairy was doing good at defending herself, and Killian was not a knight in a shining armor. He would give his life for only one person in this, or currently another, world.
"I remember you. You cursed her!"
"Perhaps you can wait until after we arrive to run me through?"
When Killian realized that Maleficent didn't do much for her own defense after all, he finally decided to speak up as well. He also got that losing her would be no good for their mission, long before her eyes had silently told him.
"Okay, mate, calm," he said to Phillip rather casually, touching his arm only slightly to not cause anything himself by startling the boy with a sudden movement. "Just think this through for a moment, will you? Not only do we need her, but you also don't want to be that man, believe me. Unlike with a pirate like me, revenge isn't in your blood."
