*** Phillip, Killian and Maleficent enter from Stefan's Kingdom - Forbidden Fortress ***
"My fair lady... How much I've missed going on an adventure with you," Killian spoke to the Jolly Roger as he let his hand glide down the ship's wheel like it was a fair lady indeed. To him, it was even more than that. Sure, his main incentive was Etta, yet there was no love compared to the one a pirate felt for his ship; for the life it stood for.
"To each their own love," he answered that slightly perturbed look on Maleficent's face as she watched him stroking what was but a man-made object to her. She said nothing in return but instead turned her head to address the prince. "You aren't a bad sailor, I trust."
Before Phillip even could have replied to that assumption, Killian interjected with a proud grin on his lips, addressing both of them. "I guess the better premise here is to be not afraid of heights, my dear."
Maleficent gave the pirate a slightly complacent look as if silently saying that would, at least for her part, be no problem at all. With one last nod, she then left the two men to their own, heading down towards below.
"You aren't, right?" Killian asked Phillip once it was only the two of them. He wouldn't expose a mate in front of a lady. That would be bad form.

"You aren't, right?"
Phillip had been so enveloped in his own thoughts, that he honestly was only half paying attention to the surrounding conversation that had taken place around him. His gaze snapped away from it's entrancement of the rolling waves of the never ending glistening ocean and landed in surprise onto Hook, "Aren't what - a bad pirate or afraid of heights?" Phillip heartily chuckled, trying to conceal his mannerisms before they fell rather sincere in his true feelings. He knew they were all concerned, yet his heart sang a never ending song for his one true love and he couldn't get his mind off of her no matter how hard he tried. Phillip's gaze tilted down to the rapids that moved against the pointed front of the boat as it glided gracefully through the water. He knew they were on the right track, however he simply couldn't help the pang in his chest that plagued him. His love was in danger, he could sense it. And he knew that he needed to find her.

"Aren't what - a bad pirate or afraid of heights?"
Killian said nothing in return but instead replied the chuckle with one of his own, knowing that one of them seemed to be sailing in waters of other countries right now, maybe in memories of completely different sort of heights. He grinned for a second, then, as he eyed Phillip closer, turned serious again. There was a look on his comrade's face that appeared much too dark for his kind.
"Does it suit a prince to wear such a scowl on his face? I thought you'd be raising your swords and delightfully riding on your white horses, straight towards a damsel in distress," Killian joked again, but then added more words, this time more empathetically. "The horizon always is ahead, my friend. We've been waiting for so long. We wouldn't lose our hopes now, would we?" As if to underline his imagery, Killian's eyes turned ahead of them, a look of confidence upon his features.

It wasn't long ago that a friendship between a Prince and a pirate was unlikely, unheard of even. They had lived entirely different lives, through circumstances only the other had experience with. And yet, through their mutual situation did Phillip's respect for Killian grow with every step they took towards finding Rose. Sure he was rugged around the edges like any other captain with life experience, but the Prince could see his compassionate heart through his actions and words. The Pirate gave Phillip hope that there was still some good people that existed in this realm. He only hoped there were kindhearted people in the realm where Rose may be as well if she were to have found herself in peril.
"You're right," Phillip's complexion relaxed into a gracious smile as he turned his face to the side to face Killian. Out of all of the travel companions he could have ended up with, Phillip was glad it was Hook to keep him leveled and sane in this crazy situation, "It's no help if I'm only half here. From the moment we met, she captured my heart, Hook, and took it with her wherever she's landed herself. I know it's a feeling that you understand just as well," Phillip addressed Hook with the common interest that they both had women in their lives whom they were hopelessly dedicated to finding, "I just hope that she's found some solitude until our rescue."

"You're right,""It's no help if I'm only half here. From the moment we met, she captured my heart, Hook, and took it with her wherever she's landed herself. I know it's a feeling that you understand just as well,"
Aye, he did. Just as he did understand Phillip's worries. In the past years, there had, of course, been days on which he doubted that curse ever to be broken and their ladies still waiting for them, but the knack was to fight those demons back, again and again. And now, with a hoisted-up flag, Killian was ready to sail as far as it took to be with his love again. She surely would not have forgotten him. Many a maiden had tried and failed. However, none of them had ever made him wait and crave, 28 years long.
"I just hope that she's found some solitude until our rescue."
"Aye, I'm sure. Now stop hanging the jib, my friend, and make yourself a little useful," Killian suddenly said, more focused on the here and now instead of what might or might not await them at the end of their course, his tone still comradely yet also somewhat commanding. One could tell that he'd been captain of a crew of pirates for a long time. He gestured towards a couple of ropes next to Phillip while not leaving his own position at the wheel. "Those need to be tightened." This was not primarily about getting a helping hand - and that coming from a man who had only one -; no, he could easily have stepped away from the wheel for a moment to do so himself, but instead, this was to give Phillip a job that would distract him from the brooding.

"Aye, I'm sure. Now stop hanging the jib, my friend, and make yourself a little useful," "Those need to be tightened."
Nodding at the Pirate who was gracious enough to hear his woes, Phillip nodded as a glimmer of understanding could be noticeably seen for a moment, "Aye aye, Captain," His grin widened and setting his sight on the very ropes that Hook had tilted his head at, he was ready to get to work and distract himself from the anxious thoughts that crept into his head every now and then. Scooping the ropes up from at his feet, Phillip made himself busy but couldn't help but to fixate his gaze longingly upon the horizon. It's beauty and grace had managed to remain unchanged the past couple of decades, which gave him hope that Rose's love for him remained unchanged as well. Hope.

Killian watched the prince from the corner of his eyes as he took care of the ropes. He still seemed somewhat nervous and distressed, but Killian had a feeling that this ballast would be getting shed somewhere along their way. If Killian was damn good at something, then that was, along with other things, to motivate a crew, no matter if made of a dozen or only one single man. He truly had missed standing at this wheel, giving commands as well as words of cheer, and just be a captain again.
"Tell me, mate," Killian eventually spoke up again, turning towards Phillip with a curious grin on his lips. "Have I ever asked you how you guys have met? Surely a fairytale writ large, ain't it?" This man was in need of a chat, and what could be more inspiring than let him talk about his dearest?

"Tell me, mate," "Have I ever asked you how you guys have met? Surely a fairytale writ large, ain't it?"
Weaving the ropes through the palms of his hands, Hook had caught Phillip in a daydream state and fueled it even more with questions that resurfaced memories that felt as if they had just happened yesterday. "We met in a tavern. I was returning home from touring my Kingdom, looking for a place to rest my head. Little did I know that I was going to meet the love of my life that night," Still looking into the depths of the glowing horizon, his cheeks rounded as his lips melted into gentle grin as he remembered the first time she looked at him and smiled, "From the moment Rose walked in, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. In those moments, I wasn't so sure what had come over me, knocking bar stools over and feeling as giddy as the drunkards that frequented the place. But now I know - it was true love." Phillip wanted to spill all about their first exchanges. Though, as he ran their first conversation through his head, he figured he would keep most of it for himself. It was a special moment between two loves, one that he cherished now more than ever, "Did you feel the same when you met your love, Hook? What was it like?" Phillip questioned the Pirate as he finally diverted his gaze from the whimsical landscape of sky and ocean and placed it on the navigator of the ship.

"We met in a tavern. I was returning home from touring my Kingdom, looking for a place to rest my head. Little did I know that I was going to meet the love of my life that night,"
Even though one might think the pirate had only asked this question to raise his comrade's spirits, Killian was thoroughly interested in the story. He might as well not be a sucker for said fairytales writ large in general, but there was something about the prince that Killian had learned to really like during the last years. Phillip was a man of good form, and not only in the way of sailors like him could be, but on a much higher level. Frankly, Killian had never met a man as sincere as this one. It was not like he would even consider walking in that pair of boots himself, but he had some great respect for it.
"From the moment Rose walked in, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. In those moments, I wasn't so sure what had come over me, knocking bar stools over and feeling as giddy as the drunkards that frequented the place. But now I know - it was true love."
Rose, Killian pondered for a moment as he watched the horizon ahead. He had heard Phillip say that name a lot, yet - now, standing at this very wheel back on his ship - he got a strike with memory about a girl with the same name; A girl he once had been offering with safe conduct towards her... Killian didn't remember who it was. An aunt maybe? Well, it didn't matter.
"Did you feel the same when you met your love, Hook? What was it like?"
Then, before he knew it, Phillip was turning the conversation around, asking him about his story instead. A smirk formed around Killian's lips as he sideglanced at him. "Aye, true love," he repeated almost dreamily, yet not quite as princely as his friend before but instead with some of the personal spice of their first exchanges. Killian remembered the taste of their first kiss as if it would have been only yesterday. It was nothing like a fairytale, yet to him, it was what came closer to one than any pirate ever might. Still a story of treasures and robbery as, back at that day, a woman had become the only treasure worth dying for, stealing his heart with all the weapons she got. The smirk grew into a grin. "Etta and I had to weather some storms before we knew what it was, but as soon as we did," he chuckled, gentleman enough to not finish that sentence in front of someone like Phillip, at least not before altering it in his head. "Let's just say that we submissively obeyed the waywardness of those tides."

"Etta and I had to weather some storms before we knew what it was, but as soon as we did," "Let's just say that we submissively obeyed the waywardness of those tides."
Phillip watched as the Captain's features melded with the memories that seemed to be flooding back into his head. Everyone's love story was unique with it's similar qualities, it was a mutual topic that was naturally relatable for Phillip. Nodding attentively to Hook's words, Phillip never lost the dreamy smile on his face. Picking the ropes up once more as the work was not going to do itself, Phillip walked up beside hook and patted his shoulder as he passed behind him, "No greater test of love than a storm or two. And if you make it through to calm waters and clear blue skies, that's when you know it's real." Phillip shed Hook a genuine grin before turning his gaze to the ropes in his hands, still keeping an attentive ear open for a response from the Captain.

"Well spoken, my friend," Killian replied with a nod of appreciation. "You would make a good sailor. Just sayin', in case the prince thing pales of charm at some point." Killian grinned as he watched his friend taking care of the ropes. He really had taken a shine on Phillip during the last 28 years, much more time than he had spent with most people before. Killian would be lying if he said that he won't miss him after this adventure. Not that he was really thinking about what may come after that, as that seemed to be written in the stars yet, but it won't do any harm to have a course at least, will it? Killian could probably never give up the sea, not even for a woman. Besides, Etta had experienced the life of a pirate herself. They had never talked about this, never gotten a chance to, but Killian had always dreamed of a life where he could have both.

"Well spoken, my friend," "You would make a good sailor. Just sayin', in case the prince thing pales of charm at some point."
"As tickled with temptation as I always am to seize an opportunity to go on an adventure, I think I'll leave sailing the seas up to the best," Phillip winked lightly, bearing an amused smirk in reaction to Hook's assessment. He felt rather honored to have a seal of swashbuckler approval from one of the greatest pirates he had ever known. Though after their current adventure comes to a close and Rose is in his loving grasp again, Phillip knew his place would be next to her ruling their kingdom. Beside, he figured this quest would be enough to tie him over for a very long time. "Speaking of which, how much farther do you reckon we have left to sail, Captain?" Phillip questioned Hook curiously to see if he had any sort of estimate on how much father they had to go, and how much closer they were with reuniting with their loves.

"Fair enough." An appreciative grin spread across Killian's face, yet he would lie if he said that he wasn't feeling, at least, a little bit disappointed. In some way, however, he had expected no less an answer than this. That was the commitment of a headstrong man, just like he was when it came to his pirate life. They all had their own port to lay.
"Speaking of which, how much farther do you reckon we have left to sail, Captain?"
"Well, we're still waiting for that bloody signal," Killian brought to Phillip's mind with his gaze ahead, almost as if he was expecting to see it any time soon. However, waiting here was much more bearable for him than to do so somewhere on land. He was just feeling a lot more home on the sea, on his ship, sailing for something that would make him feel even more home; Someone.

"Well, we're still waiting for that bloody signal,"
Philip nodded, as if he had been reminded of a crucial detail. He had been so wrapped up in thinking about Rose, but he knew he had to keep his head in the game. He couldn't lose any of it - his head, or heart even - not now while the stakes were so high and hope seemed so low. But they had to keep the faith, he knew that. Because if they didn't...
...Suddenly, it had felt as if a pulse had knocked the wind out of the side of the ship, almost sending the men flying. Philip grasped onto the side of the ship for dear life as he waited for the boat to rock back upwards, "Something like that?!" Philip exclaimed as he brought himself back onto his feet, his gaze glued to the horizon to find any sign or beacon that the vibration had come from.

At the sudden shake, not only Phillip almost had been sent flying. In the last moment, though, Killian had gotten a grip on the wheel in front of him, preventing him from a rather unmanly, or rather unpiratedly, fall on the ground. His gaze was still fixated ahead while listening to the question behind him.
"Something like that?!"
"Aye," Killian replied with a satisfied grin back on his features, searching, and finding, indeed, the horizon for a signal. "I'd say we have a course." He turned his head back around to Phillip, the grin lasting on his face.

The men were happy to finally have received another signal. However, Maleficent couldn't help but eye the horizon with concern. She lightly tapped her staff on the deck, steadying the ship and the waters from the force of the green signal light that had reached out from somewhere beyond and connected to the glowing green orb at the top of her staff.
Maleficent moved toward the bow of the ship, the green hazy light still connected to her staff. She could feel the pull of the magic coming from wherever Rose and the others had been torn away to. This outburst was lasting longer than the previous, telling her that whatever threat might have been near or passing by Rose was becoming more serious. Whatever or whoever this threat was appeared to be encompassing her or fixating on her.
Finally, the hazy green beacon faded away, breaking off their line of course, yet rather than being distressed by this, Maleficent released the breath she'd been holding in relief. Her stony expression and stiff shoulders finally relaxed. It was the first time she'd shown any reaction to the signal and it was definitely the opposite of the way anyone else would react if they'd lost their course.
Maleficent had been keeping her concerns buried, not wishing to cause concern in the others with something they did not have control over. But with this latest burst lasting so long, she was too wrapped up in her concern to remember to hide it or to decide if she should continue to do so.

Philip's heart began to swell with an overwhelming sense of hope. Seeing that green hazy light, he grinned so hard that his cheeks began to hurt. Just seeing any sort of sign that his one true love was out there, waiting for him without a doubt, ignited the fire within him once more. Rose... Philip kept chanting her name over and over in his head, as if he was trying to send her some sort of message of his own. He would find her, and they would live happily ever after...
...Suddenly, the green light broke off. Alarming panic flickered over Philip's eyes as he watched the green light disappear. "No...," Philip moved his feet quickly to the edge of the boat, squinting into the landscape of the large mass of ocean. His lips parted in shock, their course had come and gone in the blink of an eye. "What happened?!" Philip whipped his head around to Maleficent who appeared to be just as concerned as he was.

When suddenly the signal broke off, all hope from before swept away. Killian had thought that this would be the final signal; The one they had been waiting for, and now it was, once again, just another flicker? If the Jolly Roger didn't mean so much to him, he probably would have bored his sword into it right now.
"No...,""What happened?!"
Killian saw no need in adding a question of his own, so all he did was gaze at Maleficent as well, waiting for an explanation from her side.

The men were waiting for an explanation and she would offer the truth, which would help them to view the loss of their guiding light with less disappointment. She kept her eyes on the horizon as she spoke.
"The light comes from a necklace that I had enchanted and given to Rose. The first beacon we received," she referred to the one that pulsated rather than the later ones that were a solid green haze connecting to the orb at the top of her staff, "was a signal that its magic had come back to life. Either whatever curse was keeping them hidden away has started to weaken or the necklace had found its way back into Rose's possession. Perhaps both."
Maleficent turned her back toward their heading, as if not wishing to see that solid green haze appear again. "The necklace is enchanted with a location spell so that I would be able to find my way to Rose at any time." Maleficent demonstrated by lifting her staff and thunking it down again. The orb glowed green but then fizzled out, unable to locate the item she attempted to find. "But because of the Dark Curse, it appears that the enchantments are only working in one direction. Magic can get out of wherever they are, but it cannot travel in." Transferring her staff to her other hand, Maleficent continued with the difficult news. "The beacons that have followed since the first have been warnings." She paused, transferring her serious gaze from one man to the other. "It is a second enchantment upon the necklace that informs me if Rose is ever in danger. Every time something or someone that is a threat to Rose comes in contact with her, the necklace is reaching out to me."
Maleficent glanced over her shoulder to where the beam of light had come from with the frustration of feeling helpless. "So you can understand, gentleman, why I am not overly disappointed when we lose the signal." Maleficent began slowly stepping away, sounding weary with worry. "I worry over the thought of the beacon remaining strong and steady."

Maleficent's words gave a bad taste in Philip's mouth. He felt the sick rise in his throat and grasped the side of the ship to steady himself. They needed to find her, they needed to get to Rose.
"Will we be able to reach her in time?"

All the while Maleficent was explaining to them, Killian remained rigid and silent, his teeth grinding in his jaw. As cruel as this might sound, the well-being of this girl was not so much of importance to him, but rather a bridge; A bridge to return to Etta. Still, Phillip and Maleficent had grown enough to him to care at least a bit. Yet, his number one priority would always be his love. And so Killian remained silent, even after she had finished, leaving the dialog to them.

"Will we be able to reach her in time?" Maleficent hoped that would reach her in time. She could not lose another person in her life, not when she had lost so much already. She felt the guilt of letting her go but at the same time knew keeping her captive would have never worked. Rose had questions and the need for answers and those she could only find on the road.
"I hope for all humankind that we do, Or I'll burn this new world to the ground." Her eyes flashed a deep luminescent green as the tip of her staff matched. "We need to move faster, hold on- boys." Slamming her stick down on the ship, she sent a bolt of energy into the sky. "we need the winds." The calmest of breezes started and then it got stronger and stronger until the sails started to catch. "You should open those sails more, Pirate."

"I hope for all humankind that we do, Or I'll burn this new world to the ground." Philip did not like that answer at all, not just for his Rose but for the people of this world they were going to. This woman was passionate for her love of Rose and right now he would take it, "We need to move faster, hold on- boys. We need the winds. You should open those sails more, Pirate." The winds picked up quickly and no doubt they would get there faster now...
Philip looked to Killian to see what his next move was.

"I hope for all humankind that we do, Or I'll burn this new world to the ground."
Surely not before I found Etta... Killian thought while still listening in silence, looking like he had busied himself with the keep of their course. Well, he did, but that was a task that had become second nature to him, so he was good at drawing his attention elsewhere at the same time.
"We need to move faster, hold on- boys.""we need the winds.""You should open those sails more, Pirate."
Killian threw her a quick look as if to silently judge her for, A, the stick-slamming onto his ship, and, B, the wind-sending through its lovely sails without any forewarning. Yet when all eyes were on him again, he put on that piratey grin, after all. "Aye! Let's clap on all these beautiful sails!" he said, gesturing to Phillip to help him.

Philip remembered everything he was taught, allowing him to help Killian to open the sails and get them moving. Soon as they opened the ship lurched forward, they were off to save Rose.
Maleficent kept her eyes on the sky, making sure to keep the wind blowing in the right direction. Watching and waiting for any change, anything that might change the narrative of this rescue. Maleficent didn't trust many, she barely trusted these two but they all shared one goal- getting to this new world.
"We're coming, Beastie."

(temp-play by Hollywood Heidi)
After a torturously long time of sailing aimlessly, a green glow in the distance caught her eye. She stood, moving quickly toward the starboard side to watch as the green glowing line came closer.
It struck the orb at the top of her staff, lighting it like a beacon in the night and locking on in an unbreakable way that told her that Rose had fallen victim to something she could not be freed from by normal standards. Something borne from an irreversible curse she'd enacted against an innocent baby when she'd been consumed by hurt and anger.
Maleficent looked back to the two men, her expression stony and her tone heavy. "We have our heading."

"We have our heading."
Philip recognized the persistence and yet pain in her heavy voice as she spoke. He could only hope at this point that his true love was okay. His gaze piped upwards at the horizon at Maleficent's announcement, they would find her soon. He could only hope, "Great! What's next, Captain?" Philip fixated his attention onto Hook who would hopefully know what the next steps were that they needed to take in order to get an inch closer to the ones they loved.

"We have our heading."
Killian was still focused on holding the course, but had practically sensed that they were getting somewhere finally. Sailing rather aimlessly while a goal was actually set on your mind was not exactly how he liked it.
"Great! What's next, Captain?"
Unlike Phillip, he was still skeptically though. Killian wouldn't cheer up before they actually reached land, until he would see her back. Lastly, he turned around to face his companions, an unchanged look on his face, simply not overly enthusiastic. Instead of answering Phillip's question or go into action even, Killian's eyes remained on Maleficent. "I hope you don't mind the question, but how certain is said heading? Just another sign or something actually measurable?" His tone was not harsh or something, just neutral. He liked to get facts rather than a rough direction, and he was sure she would understand that.

"Great! What's next, Captain?"
Maleficent frowned at the bright, unfaltering green glow. She waved a hand toward the bottom of her staff, a smoke of green magic causing roots to grow up from the planks to hold it in place. So that she may move freely without interrupting the beacon.
Though she was glad to finally have the way after nearly three decades of waiting, she did not share in Phillip's enthusiasm. Phillip had been very young when Maleficent had enacted the curse, the event of it lost to time, and Rose had apparently not told him of it. No doubt her kind-hearted nature had wished to not shed a bad light on Maleficent, no matter that she deserved it.
"I hope you don't mind the question, but how certain is said heading? Just another sign or something actually measurable?"
A glance toward Killian to see that like her, he was not overly enthusiastic, but as he spoke, his reasons were different. It was time to come clean about the past, both to allow Phillip to get his undoubted anger out of his system before they arrived, and for Killian's reassurance that they had their solid course.
Her eyes remained watching the length of the green glow, her tone still heavy with regret. "There is not a doubt about it. Rose has fallen under the curse."
"The curse?" Phillip questioned, the joy on his face slowly melted into worry and confusion. Almost everyone from their land had been swept into the curse. It can't have taken 28 years for a signal to be seen, so that meant... "There's another curse?"
"A very old one," she said, still avoiding his gaze. "One put upon her when she was just a babe, by an angry and vengeful fairy." She turned now to look him in the eye, a hint of guilt in her stony expression.
Phillip studied Maleficent, long forgotten memories of a christening interrupted by a frightening figure with... horns and glowing green powers. "You..." he started to say, an accusatory finger raised toward her as foggy memories from his four- or five- year-old self started coming back to him. He drew his sword and angrily charged at her, pinning her against the railing, side of his sword held against her throat. "I remember you. You cursed her!"
His anger wasn't allowing him to think clearly and to see that any animosity Maleficent may have felt in the past had never been toward Rose. Rose had merely had the misfortune of being the daughter of a very hateful man. He was also forgetting the fact that Maleficent had done a lot to help Rose and that even now, she was helping them to get back to her. Most importantly, he wasn't considering that the magic in her staff was a part of her and that it would die along with her, forever killing any chance they had of finding Rose... or Etta.
Maleficent did not fight him, the guilt that had eaten at her for decades obvious. Still, she was a little annoyed at how irrational he was being. "Perhaps you can wait until after we arrive to run me through?" she suggested dryly, her eyes flitting toward her staff then Killian in a silent, 'I die, the beacon dies'.
