I loved this show so much! It's totally bonkers but hilarious! Very different from any other DC thing that I've seen. Much more like the James Gunn of "Guardians of the Galaxy" or "Slither," than the dark (visually and in tone) movies from Zack Snyder.
I hadn't seen the "Suicide Squad" that introduced Peacemaker so I knew nothing going in. But there are enough flashbacks and explanations so that you don't feel lost. I love almost every character, which is rare, but John Cena definitely carries this show, making it look effortless while also conveying his external and internal struggles. And unlike other superhero shows, he gets hurt. A lot. Two other standouts are his sidekick Eagly (yes, he's CGI but he's adorable) and his BFF, Adrian Chase aka Vigilante. He's like a funny Rorschach with very clearly drawn lines between right and wrong, and his own idea of justice. Sure, he's a sociopath but Freddie Stroma makes him so darn charming.
The show has already been renewed for season 2, so check it out! Also, it has a great soundtrack of '80s hair metal and an intro that I never skip....

Thanks for the review, lady! You definitely made it a lot more enticing! I pretty much swore off the DCEU and have been just waiting and hoping for them to relaunch it from scratch because I really wanna love DC again. But your review really helped me to reconsider! I'll check it out after I catch up with a bit of a backlog of other shows. Also, thanks for the Screen Crush vids! I love that channel and will have an easy place to find the vids here once I get around to this show.  |
