James cast a suspicious eye over the sand around him, treading carefully so as to avoid discovering any sharp objects in an unfortunate manner. He was keen to find something that would aid him in the task at hand but not so keen on finding it protruding from one his feet. Despite the beach being covered in pieces of smashed up plane remnants, James soon found that locating a suitable piece of wreckage wasn't as easy as he'd expected. Much of it was either the wrong shape or simply too blunt. Shifting sand aside with one foot as he walked, James soon noticed a white shard of metal peeking out of the ground beneath him. He knelt down beside it, pushed his sleeve down over his right hand and tugged it free.
"Guess this means I get to be King, eh Merlin" he muttered, holding the shard up and examining it. "Although where I'm King of is anyone's guess."
James walked back over to Gwen and held the piece of metal up triumphantly. "My lady, I present to you our cutting tool."

Stu 'Smiley' Miley
Stu had collected some wood and laid it near the fire, Stu looked up at the sky and noticed that dark clouds were coming in. Stu's face screwed up as he began to think what the night would be like sleeping under a tree again... only this time with more rain and he came to the conclusion that he needed a shelter. Only Stu wasn't going to build a shelter so he went with the most logical idea and went to his suitcase, looked through it and found a permanent marker which he held in the sky triumphantly. While he was digging around in the suitcase he considered putting a shirt on but decided it wasn't fair on those who had to look at him to hide away a body like his. Stu then walked over to Heidi's shelter and in huge letters wrote on it 'Stuz shelltur/Luveshak' and had begun the process of claiming the shelter as his on and realized how much he sucked and spelling a side effect of nothing being able to read he guessed.

"Ah, very nice, Sir James. Or shall I call you 'Professor'? So what's the next step? I suppose we should hurry; those clouds look rather promising."
"Call me whatever you like, I can guarantee I've been called worse. Just don't call me Shirley."
James looked up at the clouds. "I suppose promising is one word you could use. Best get to it." He grabbed one of the larger bottles and, holding it firmly in one hand, punctured through it's widest area at the top with the shard of metal. Moving slowly so as to avoid searing through the plastic and slicing his own hand, James cut a ring through the bottle and removed the top, leaving a large open hole for the water to fall in through. He then placed it on top of the bamboo structure and grabbed up some nearby rocks, which he positioned around the base of the bottle.
"Hopefully that should hold it in place unless we get a really bad storm. It's not perfect but I don't exactly have IKEA's finest materials to work with here" he said, picking up another bottle and starting the process over again.

KATE
Kate had been milling around the beach and helping out here and there. Her eyes kept straying to the infirmary tent as her mind was occupied with thoughts of the marshal. She wondered how bad his situation really was. Up until her last talk with Jack, Jack had been adamant about the marshal recovering. But mostly, she was worried about the marshal saying something.
She saw Jack head out of the tent and toward the fuselage and seized the opportunity to check on the marshal.
Kate approached the entrance of the infirmary and stopped short as a guy leaving the tent nearly ran into her.
Hurley stopped dead in his tracks as he came face to face with Kate. He hugged the water bottles he'd been carrying tighter and hoped that Kate didn't notice that he'd paled slightly.
"Hey, sorry," Kate said.
Hurley struggled to remain calm. Here he was, face to face with Kate and his overactive imagination had come up with all sorts of scary scenarios that led to that mugshot. "I was going to get some more water."
Kate gave him a friendly smile, assuming his nervousness was due to unease around strangers. "We haven't met. I'm Kate." She put out her right hand.
"Hi, Kate," Hurley said distractedly, still gawking at her.
"Hi." Kate patiently waited for him come around, a smirk of amusement on her face.
Hurley looked at her, the friendly smile and manner not matching up with the scary scenarios he'd been imagining all day. He felt himself becoming more at ease. "Hurley," he said, juggling the bottles to one arm as he shook her hand.
Hurley was watching her and she quickly came up with a reason why she was there. Of course, she'd have to lie. "I was just looking for Jack and I thought he might be in there."
"Yeah, no. Uh, he went to go get some medicine... over there," Hurley pointed to the fuselage.
Kate turned to where Hurley pointed. "Where? In the fuselage?"
The flash of metal caught Hurley's eye. It was a gun, tucked into the back of Kate's waistband. That feeling of ease he was having? Yah, that was gone. Kate looked at him expectantly and Hurley realized she'd said something. It took him a few seconds to process. "What? Yeah, in the uh, uh... you know? I've got to get that water." Hurley rushed off.
Kate watched him rush off and wasn't sure what to make of it. Whatever it was, it didn't matter. She'd wanted to see the marshal alone and now was her chance. Maybe even her only chance.

"Oh it's not all bad. At least I'm getting to meet some interesting people", James smiled. "Although I'm in no hurry to meet our own personal Godzilla", he added, nodding in the direction of the dense jungle while piling more rocks up around the second bottle. "You didn't see any suspicious-looking Japanese packages on the luggage itinerary, I suppose? Maybe one accompanied by a biohazard symbol?", he asked with a smirk.
As the first drops of rain appeared and turned into a downpour, James growled under his breath in frustration and grabbed up the last of the rocks.
"Balls to that!" he exclaimed, noticing people running for cover and placing more rocks around the bottles as rain poured off him. "I'll be damned if I'm leaving this thing to blow over just because of a light downpour."

***Jack and Kate enter from F3 - Camp - Jack's Shelter/Infirmary - Day 3***
KATE
Kate followed Jack out into the rain. "So, what are you going to do about it?"
Jack headed for the nearest tarp set up to catch rain. "About what?
"About him," she said, pointing back at the shelter.
"I told you, he needs water."
"Will he suffer?"
Jack stopped and turned to Kate. "What?"
"Will it be quick?" she asked pointedly.
"No. It won't be quick. 2, 3, maybe 4 days," he said, the frustration of it evident in his voice.
He started walking away again and Kate kept pace. "And he'll feel it?"
"Yeah, he'll feel it," he snapped. Jack dipped the bottle into the tarp.
Despite the misery the Marshal had consistently put her through in his dogged pursuit of her, she didn't wish that kind of death on him. Nobody deserved that. She was crestfallen. "Can't you put him out of his misery?"
Jack whipped around to face her and in two quick strides, was nearly nose to nose with Kate. "I saw your mug shot, Kate." He stressed each of his next words. "I am not a murderer." With that, he walked away.
Kate remained motionless. He knew. And the way he'd looked at her, it felt worse than she'd thought it would.

Sarah
Sarah had missed Heidi most of the day, but she decided to just keep herself busy. She held onto Mr. Floppers as she walked by the treeline to collect sticks, she would use them as decoration and so on. When the rain started she got majorly bummed out, knowing that her sandcastle would either be washed away or in need or major repair. Sighing she hide under the treeline and hoped the train would pass soon.

As I walked back out onto the beach, I looked to the spot where I'd left Jasmine. She and all her stuff were gone. Frowning, I looked around, unable to see very far in the heavy rain and lack of sun. A short distance to my right, I saw Sarah huddling under the canopy of the trees along the treeline and headed over.
"Sarah, honey," I stuck the makeshift shovel into the sand and knelt down next to her. "What are you doing all the way over here alone? It's not safe so close to the trees."

"Sarah, honey, What are you doing all the way over here alone? It's not safe so close to the trees." Sarah smiled and gave her a quick hug. "I was looking for sticks for my sandcastle, and than the rain started. So it doesn't even matter now, since my castle is probably washed away by now." Sarah kept the stick tho, she would use them once her sandcastle was fixed.

"That's okay. We can build a bigger and better one. Look, I even have a shovel now, We can dig a really neat moat around it." Well that sounded really exciting and Sarah couldn't wait for the rain to stop, because now that Heidi had a shovel, it would be a lot easier to dig and make an awesome sandcastle. "Hey, did you see where Jasmine, er, Jinx went?" Sarah smiled, "Yeah, she kind of wandered off with her shelter stuff. She seemed kind of sad, but, i saw her setting up her shelter over there before the rain started.

I squinted through the rain toward where Sarah pointed. "She is a little sad. I wanted to go talk to her." A little sad was an understatement but I didn't want to have to explain to Sarah what was really going on with Jasmine. It was just not the kind of thing you wanted to tell kids and I wasn't sure if Jasmine wanted people to know. I guessed the last thing she wanted at the moment was a bunch of people looking at her with pity and giving their condolences.
"But I don't want to leave you all the way over here alone. Think you could relocate closer to everyone else and take the shovel with you? Make sure you keep it in a place where it won't get snatched up?" My mud splattered shoes and jeans were evidence enough that it'd been digging in the mud. The last thing I wanted to do was approach Jasmine with the shovel still in my hand.

"Well it won't get me on Blue Peter any time soon but it'll do until someone more technically-minded can come up with something better."
"I'll admit, James, I admire your tenacity," she remarked upon his determined efforts to continue constructing a rain-catcher during the rain. At least it had worked and they would now have a source of fresh water where people could refill their bottles. But it was just one source, dependent on the weather. A temporary solution at best. "Maybe we can find a stream or something further inland. Something that doesn't require my rather basic building skills...."
"At least we're doing better than that poor sod."
She nodded sadly as the man's pained cries cut through the now-still air. "Jack's doing the best he can, but he was counting on rescue. I think we've all been."

"I'll admit, James, I admire your tenacity"
"It's nothing really. I just don't like to sit around and do nothing."
Because that's when the depression gets a chance to set in, James thought.
"I just prefer to be up and doing things. And if I set my mind to do something I like to see it through, you know?"

She'd caught a glimpse of a still-shirtless Stu writing on Heidi's shelter and then tossing his suitcase inside. But she hadn't seen Heidi since her conversation with the little girl, Sarah.
