“Hello, Gail,”
"Hey there, Archie!" she answered cheerily. She was glad for the distraction and a chance to carry on a conversation outside of her own mind. Gail hunched down in front of Pongo, scratching vigorously behind his ears. "Hi ya, handsome!" She laughed and leaned away as Pongo tried to lick her face.
“Would you like some help?”
With one more pat on Pongo's head, Gail stood and gave Archie a smile of appreciation for his offer. "It's very kind of you to offer, Doc, but Granny would have my head." She smirked, knowing he and everyone knew what a spitfire Granny was. "I'd love some conversation though!" she said as she motioned him into the outside dining area. "Pick any interesting brains at the office today?"

Archie
"It's very kind of you to offer, Doc, but Granny would have my head." Oh, right, he should have thought about Granny. "I'd love some conversation though!" He smiled, also looking forward to having a conversation that didn't involve talking people through their problems. He loved to help, but sometimes it was nice to discuss normal topics.
She motioned him into the seating area, and he followed her, setting his briefcase and umbrella down on a table so he wouldn't have to hold them while he talked. He was about to ask her how her day had been, when she spoke. "Pick any interesting brains at the office today?"
Archie groaned inwardly at the choice of topic. He always hated talking about his job and dancing the fine line between just talking and breaching doctor-patient confidentiality. "Well, I certainly did talk to a lot of people." She'd asked if they were interesting, though, and all of his conversations had been typical and boring. It was almost like he'd been trying to help his patients through the same problems for years on end. The only one who ever seemed to actually get something out of his sessions was Henry, and even then, Archie felt like he was just repeating the same advice to his young patient.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts, realizing he was keeping Gail waiting. "It was a rather normal day at work for me. What about you, how was your day?"

She paused in wiping down the table to considered, running through the day in her head. "I'd say a little more excitement than normal. Everyone's been bending my ear with lots of town gossip, especially about that out-of-towner..." she took a moment to recall the name. "Emma. That's it."
Clean-up done, she tossed the dirty rag in with the dirty dishes and went to retrieve the water dish kept handy near the water spout. She continued to talk as she filled it and walked it over to Pongo, giving him a pat on the head as she placed the dish in front of him. "Got a little attitude from Miss Prissy Bi- uh, Bennett," she quickly censored, "but hey," she shrugged and continued in her optimistic manner, "it keeps things interesting."
Gail slumped into a chair, giving a sigh of relief to be off her feet. "I haven't had a break all day. I'm overdue." She motioned to the other chairs, inviting him to have a seat and glanced over at Pongo who noisily lapped water. She was about to inquire about Pongo but the shadow of a person approaching in the lamplight distracted her.

Mr. Gold walked down the street, just left Granny's Bed and Breakfast to welcome the most important person. Finally the plan started rolling. He was starting to get tired of this town and their people, doesn't remember who they are. Though it was quite funny at times...
"Emma. That's it.", a female voice was drawing his attention.
Mr. Gold stopped his steps, turning his head around to the faint lamplight of the diner. He saw a young woman giving a dish with water to a dog, and a man standing next to her. The waitress and that grasshopper calling himself a doctor here.
"Got a little attitude from Miss Prissy Bi- uh, Bennett,""but hey,""it keeps things interesting.""I haven't had a break all day. I'm overdue."
Mr. Gold decided to join that little session, before he made his way back home. With his usual quite steps he approached them. "Good evening.", he interrupted their conversation, though the young woman has glanced over at him even before he started to talk anyway. And with that typically look of course, after they noticed which face belonged to the shadow in the light. That look always brought a little smirk on his lips. "I really dislike to disturb,", he continued. "but if you don't mind, I would like to have a cup of coffee, enjoying it in the fresh air here outside." Mr. Gold let his words follow a friendly smile. He was a little curious about what they've already heard about Emma. So this way he was able to relax a bit and to keep his ears open.

Mr. Gold materialized from the shadow and a fleeting weariness overcame her. She never knew why that was always her immediate reaction when he first appeared. Perhaps because of the cloud of intimidation that seemed to surround him or the stories she'd heard but she never personally had any qualms with him. Her weariness quickly melted away as it always did and she was up on her feet, back in waitress mode and greeting him with a smile.
"Good evening, Mr. Gold. No trouble at all. Please, have a seat and relax and I'll be right back with your coffee."
Without delay, Gail grabbed the bus box and headed for the diner. She felt bad for leaving Archie alone with Mr. Gold and hoped he wasn't one of the people deathly afraid of being in such a situation.

Archie
"I'd say a little more excitement than normal. Everyone's been bending my ear with lots of town gossip, especially about that out-of-towner..." "Emma. That's it." Ah yes, Emma. Henry's birth mother. He hadn't realized news of her had spread all over town already, though he supposed he should have. Storybrooke was a small town, and news traveled quickly.
Gail grabbed a water dish, and filled it up for Pongo, causing Archie to smile. He always appreciated it when someone took care of his dog. "Got a little attitude from Miss Prissy Bi- uh, Bennett," "but hey," "it keeps things interesting."
"I'm sure it does," he agreed. Archie didn't interact with Miss Bennett often, but from what he'd heard about her, he knew she was a difficult person to get along with sometimes.
"I haven't had a break all day. I'm overdue." Gail sat down, motioning for him to join her, which he did. Maybe she should take some time off to rest and recover, or ask Granny for less hours. He would suggest it, but he didn't want to impose his opinions on her, and besides, that would be a little hypocritical. After all, he worked almost as much as Gail did.
"Good evening." Archie jumped, caught off guard by the sudden Dracula-esk greeting. He turned around, to see Mr. Gold stepping into the lamp light, and he tried to force a friendly smile on his face. Mr. Gold was another person in town he rarely interacted with; other than to give him the rent.
"I really dislike to disturb,", he continued. "but if you don't mind, I would like to have a cup of coffee, enjoying it in the fresh air here outside."
"Good evening, Mr. Gold. No trouble at all. Please, have a seat and relax and I'll be right back with your coffee." Archie tried not to panic as Gail disappeared to go retrieve the requested beverage. After all, he could carry on a conversation with Mr. Gold for at least a few minutes without getting evicted, right?
He cleared his throat nervously, trying to think of a safe topic to discuss while he waited for Gail to return. Asking the pawnbroker about his day seemed like a potentially dangerous question, so instead Archie decided to go with the safest point of discussion in the book. "The weather was nice today," he commented, before realizing he probably made a terrible mistake. Mr. Gold might find him dull and stupid for bringing up the weather, but it was too late to go back now. He just had to hope the pawnbroker didn't take offense at his attempt to strike up a conversation.

"Good evening, Mr. Gold. No trouble at all. Please, have a seat and relax and I'll be right back with your coffee."
Mr. Gold responded her smile, even if they both knew how insincere or put-on each other's was. When the waitress turned around heading to the diner, Mr. Gold took a seat next to the doctor. For a moment Mr. Gold just watched him, being amused about the nervous look on his face. If he was thinking about a topic to talk with him? Or about standing up and quickly walking home? With a satisfied smile Mr. Gold leaned back in his seat, as his attention suddenly turned back to the Hopper, who was nervously clearing his throat.
"The weather was nice today,"
That was it? Minutes of thought whirls and then the weather chitchat... "Really?", he replied with a playfully staggered expression on his face. "I remember I was getting rather soaked today." With a short look at the umbrella in the Hopper's hand he added: "But I may err." The corner of his mouth raised a bit, while he was leaning back again, waiting for his coffee or maybe another amusing start of conversation.

Archie
"Really?" "I remember I was getting rather soaked today." Oh great, he hadn't realized that. Having been stuck inside all day, Archie hadn't noticed the rain. When he'd arrived and left, the weather had been pleasant enough. Not only had he picked a boring topic, but he'd discussed it inaccurately as well. "But I may err," Gold added, glancing at his umbrella. He wondered if the pawnbroker new that he always carried the umbrella with him.
"Well, um, I meant right now. It's nice right now, even if it wasn't earlier" he attempted to recover, knowing it was almost pointless, especially since he was almost certain his pale face was betraying him by turning red with embarrassment. "But, um, how was your day, Mr. Gold?" Great; he'd just gone back to the topic he'd originally thought was too dangerous to broach, and after Mr. Gold had just commented on getting soaked. He really was failing miserably at this, wasn't he?

Gail rushed to prepare Mr. Gold's coffee as well as a little treat for Archie. A sort of offer of apology for leaving him alone with Mr. Gold and while she was at it, one for herself.
Tray loaded with the three drinks, Gail headed back out. "Here you go," she said, placing a cup of coffee in front of Mr. Gold. "Black, no sugar, hint of Irish cream. And for you," she said, placing a cup in front of Archie, "hot chocolate with cinnamon."
She pulled up a seat and settled, cradling the last cup in both hands to absorb some of the warmth. "You gentlemen don't mind if I join you on my break?" Her eyes looked from one to the other over the rim as she took a sip of her hot chocolate with cinnamon. She doubted Mr. Gold would object as she wasn't interrupting some private conversation but even if he did, at least she was offering a forward enough distraction to allow Archie a slightly less obvious exit should he chose to escape.

Archie
Luckily, before Gold had a chance to respond, Gail came back out with Gold's coffee. Thank goodness she did before Archie had the chance to embarrass himself any further. She placed the drink down in front of him, before, to Archie's shock, handing him a cup of hot chocolate with cinnamon. He hadn't asked for a drink, and he was rather touched that she'd thought to get him one.
She sat down at the table, nursing her own cup. "You gentlemen don't mind if I join you on my break?" She glanced back and forth between the two men, and Archie couldn't help but notice that she'd put his drink in a to-go cup. Not only that, but the way she'd phrased her question gave him the perfect opportunity to escape.
"Actually, I do believe I should be getting home now. It's getting rather late." He stood, taking out his wallet and giving her the money for the cocoa, as well as a generous tip. After all, not only had she thoughtfully got him a drink, but she'd also taken care of Pongo. "Thank you for the hot chocolate." He gathered his things, finding it slightly difficult to juggle the briefcase, umbrella, drink, and Pongo all at the same time. Luckily, he managed it without looking like a complete klutz.
"It was nice talking with you Gail. And you too, of course, Mr. Gold," he added, trying to be polite and not offend the pawnbroker. He nodded to both of them, trying to focus on Gail's friendlier expression as opposed to Gold, before letting Pongo lead the way home. Hopefully, he hadn't made too much of a fool of himself.

"Well, um, I meant right now. It's nice right now, even if it wasn't earlier""But, um, how was your day, Mr. Gold?"
His day? Mr. Gold looked up at the sky thoughtfully, a mischievous grin in the corner of his mouth. Well, it was kinda funny. Above all the little meeting with Miss Beast-Inside. The grin was getting a little more intense, hearing his own chant in thoughts again.
"Here you go," "Black, no sugar, hint of Irish cream., the waitress suddenly broke in his thoughts, placing a cup of coffee in front of him.
"Thank you.", he replied with a friendly smile, laying his hands on the cup to warm them up.
"You gentlemen don't mind if I join you on my break?", she took the word again and already sat down next to them.
"Actually, I do believe I should be getting home now. It's getting rather late.", Archie said, before Mr. Gold got a chance to answer the anyway redundant question, as the waitress already took a seat. "Thank you for the hot chocolate."
Mr. Gold watched him wordless doing many things at the same time like he had to escape from something. Sure he wanted to escape from something or better say someone... or better say him?
"It was nice talking with you Gail. And you too, of course, Mr. Gold,"
As if. "It's always a pleasure talking to the unco guide.", Mr. Gold replied with a smile, before he took another sip of his coffee. The waitress and him sat there in silence and when his cup was empty, he slowly stood up. "The coffee was excellent as always. I wish you a good evening and a nice quitting time later on, Miss." With these words he took his cane and walked home, went past the clocktower and giving it just a short look in passing without any reaction.

The clock, which has been stuck at 8:15 for as long as anyone can remember, began to move once again promptly at 8:15 p.m.
Several hours pass. It is now the morning after the clock has started.
A few may have noticed the clock moving last night and those close enough may have realized when it chimed the 9 p.m. hour. Others may have learned by word of mouth or not until they next arrived in town.

***enters from Storybrooke Firehouse***
The news of the clock tower has spread through town like wildfire. He winces at his own thoughts. Why did he have to go with something as cliché as wildfire? Being a fireman isn’t an excuse either. It actually makes it worse. He goes up to the counter and sits down, waiting for someone to come over with a menu, unconsciously fiddling with the marble in his pocket as he runs the problem through his mind again, trying to figure out how in the world the clock tower started. Try as he might, he can’t come up with any solutions. Though he has nothing better to do while he waits so he keeps trying to figure out the impossible event.

**enters from her house**
With fast steps, rushed as usual, Vanessa entered the Diner. Actually there was no need to rush today, but this was her usual start in the morning after she cared for her little babies and left her house. Once she had shut the frontdoor, her tempo always went like this. Next station then was a place to get her coffee. Well, she wasn't that happy to get it here, but this was at least the nearest place to get it. Even if it possibly would have getting faster to buy it somewhere further away, when she thought about the lame waitress.
"Mornin'", Vanessa mumbled in the counter's direction without even noticing who was standing behind it. With no more words she threw herself in one of the seats at the counter, ignoring that her bag seemed to have swiped one of the other customer's next to her.

*Who cares where she entered from she's here now!*
Eva walked into the Diner before taking a seat close to the door and shuffling a bag off her shoulders and shrugging it onto the floor next to her chair. Sitting down Eva starred dead ahead the hoodie she was wearing had the hood up covering her read hear and hiding two ear buds that pumped music into her ears louder than she would have liked but felt the need to contribute to air pollution. Her head bopped along to the music as her fingers rapped along the table impatiently as she waited for a waitress to hear the rapping and serve her. She rolled her eyes as scanned the room, she couldn't believe her Father wanted her to get a job here and deal with all these people and their shitty small talk. "How's your day?" they would ask her, like they would understand or really care, ack, she hated the thought of it even if she did love her poor old one legged Pa dearly he just didn't get it. Eva decided to slump down in her chair as she continued to rap with her fingers.

The diner seemed to be a bit busier than usual and Gail credited that to the random starting of the clock tower. This seemed to be a hub for the town to gather. 'Maybe we should rename this place Water Cooler Diner,' Gail thought in amusement.
As she dropped off an order at the end of the counter, she spotted Mo taking a seat. She automatically grabbed a glass and filled it with chilled apple juice, his drink of choice with breakfast.
"Mornin', Moe," she said with a smile as she placed the glass and a menu in front of him. "So, clock starting. Crazy, huh." It was what everyone was talking her ear off about so it had become a shorthand small talk comment to throw out. The topic didn't exactly induce deep conversation. It was just a clock after all. "Let me know when you're ready."
The little bell on the door chimed and Gail inwardly grimaced as Vanessa took a seat next to Mo, practically clobbering him with her purse. 'Rude as always,' she thought as she put on a big smile that didn't show a hint of how she really felt. "Good morning, Miss Bennett!" she said extra cheerily. She placed a menu in front of her. "Let me know when you're ready. Take all the time you need." 'But not really. The sooner you order, the sooner you leave. The sooner you leave, the sooner I get to do my 'demon out' happy dance.'
She had a feeling her cheery disposition pissed Vanessa off so she was always sure to turn up the wattage of her smile and cheeriness. She remembered Vanessa's snide comment the day before to address her as Miss Bennett and wondered that since she'd remembered, if Vanessa would demand to have it elevated further. 'Your majesty, perhaps,' Gail resisted chuckling as she mentally gave Vanessa an exaggerated bow.
Gail grabbed another menu and placed in front of Eva. Her music was blasting from the ear buds. "Morning, Eva," she mouthed. She gave her a kind smile, not the usual big friendly smile as with Eva, it just didn't seem to be taken the same way. She knew the girl wasn't much of a conversationalist so Gail made it a point to keep it short and sweet and leave the girl to her own thoughts until she was ready to order.
With that, Gail leaned against the back counter as her eyed kept a constant scan of the room for anyone needing service. She saw the other waitresses were being kept just as busy as herself on this unusually bustling morning.

Archie
*Enters from house*
Archie stood in front of the cash register; seeing as he'd have to take breakfast to go if he wanted to be in his office by the time his first patient arrived. He saw Gail was the one behind the counter, and he smiled. He'd wanted it to be her; now he could thank her for helping him escape from Gold last night. Or at least, he tried to convince himself that he'd wanted it to be Gail.
He shook his head, trying to clear it, but that didn't help in the slightest. The truth was, he had desperately wanted Ruby to be the one to take his order. He wanted to see her smiling face; for her to be paying complete attention to him, even if it was only for the few seconds it would take for him to stammer out his order. Because, no matter how many times he told himself that he was too old for her and he certainly wasn't her type of guy, Archie couldn't help but have a giant crush on the waitress.
However, it was Gail, which was a good thing, seeing as he'd wanted to talk to her anyway. "Hello," he greeted, small smile on his face. "I wanted to thank you for last night." He didn't go into detail, not wanting the other patrons to hear him talk negatively about anyone. He didn't want to set a bad example for the few customers in here who also happened to be his patients. "And, um, I'd like a blueberry muffin with my tea, if that's alright. To go, please."
He would have commented on how busy the place was, but he didn't want to keep her, or himself, from his job. So instead, he kept out the chit chat, hoping she wouldn't think him rude for it.

Gail approached Eva with a menu and eased it in front of her while mouth the words "Morning, Eva" or Eva believed them to be mouthed, she wasn't 100% sure that Gail hadn't of said something under the music Eva had playing. For the most part Eva liked Gail, she always gave Eva the space she wanted and never really tried the bullshit trite frivolities on her. This nearly begun to make Eva feel bad for her planned dine and dash for the morning and not even leaving a tip for Gail, although one could make a case of a lesson in trust being the tip.
Eva picked up the menu and gave a half hearted look over it as she knew exactly what she wanted, blueberry pancakes with a chocolate shake with extra whipped cream. Eva licked her lips before biting and chewing on her bottom lip, she wished she could have it every morning but knew Granny would catch on to her dine and dash routine if she came too often and she did feel a tinge of guilt for taking money out of their pockets though with the Eva felt Ruby looked down on her she felt like Ruby was kinda asking for it and from what she had heard Ruby gives everything away for free anyway.
Gail was leaning against the counter, Eva weakly held up the menu she hand before calling out her order towards Gail, or just into the air and expecting Gail to catch it. "Gail, Blueberry Pancakes and a Chocolate Shake with extra whipped cream..... Please." The last word was quietly added on hoping no one would notice after all she had a reputation to uphold.

"Mornin', Moe," Gail says with a smile, jolting him out of his thoughts as she places a glass of cold apple juice and a menu in front of him. "So, clock starting. Crazy, huh." Apparently she had heard the news too. Though of course, she probably couldn’t avoid it if she wanted to, working in the diner like she does. "Let me know when you're ready." He nods again in consent as he looks down at the menu, debating what to get. Many people have asked him how he can read while wearing sunglasses, but he doesn’t find it that hard. He looks behind the counter then, trying to guess at what won’t be warm. He isn’t really a big fan of heat.
Something slams into him then and he turns to see a lady sitting next to him. He frowns as the waitress greats her. The lady ignores him even though she has to know that she hit him. He sighs, deciding to ignore her and turning his attention back to food choices. He doesn’t really want to get in a fight this morning. He decides to go for a muffin, but he can’t figure out which ones are fresh from the oven and which aren’t. He eventually gives up trying to figure out what isn’t warm, deciding that he’ll have to ask Gail. Though true to form, she’s busy with other customers. He sighs again and slips down in his seat a bit, pretending to still be reading the menu so he’ll have something to do instead of interact with the rude woman beside him. He hopes Gail serves her soon so the lady can leave. He doesn’t like her at all.

Gail looked again to the door and pushed away from the counter to meet Archie at the register.
"Hey, Doc!," she said cheerily. He was definitely in her good graces after the nice tip he'd left her when he'd escaped from Mr. Gold.
"Hello," "I wanted to thank you for last night." "And, um, I'd like a blueberry muffin with my tea, if that's alright. To go, please."
"Coming right up. And think nothing of it," she said with a dismissive wave at his first comment. "If that's the going pay for releasing you from uncomfortable conversations, you can call me whenever and I'll come runnin'," she joked, attempting to ease any bad feelings he may have for her being left alone with Mr. Gold. "I'll have your order in a couple minutes," she reassured.
"Gail, Blueberry Pancakes and a Chocolate Shake with extra whipped cream..... Please."
Eva shouted out her order just as Gail was stepping away from the register to get started on Archie's to-go order. Gail grabbed an order pad and jotted it down, giving Eva a thumbs-up 'got it' signal before taking the menu from her. 'Breakfast of champs, she thought to herself in amusement. She tucked it under her arm and quickly glanced over at Moe who was slumping in his seat and seemed to be looking at the menu with disinterest. A usual sign that someone had already decided and was waiting to order.
"Ready, Moe?" she asked, pen and order pad at ready.

“Ready Moe?” Gail asks him. He is really impressed. She is good at her job. He gives her an appreciative smile, reminding himself to give her a good tip.
“Which muffins aren’t fresh?” he asks her, painfully aware that people normally ask the opposite. Still, it’s not his fault he doesn’t like heat. Or light for that matter. Why was he a firefighter again? He tells himself that it’s to help people before pushing the distracting thoughts out of his mind so he can focus on Gail’s response.

Gail didn't react to the odd request as it wasn't the first time he'd asked something like it. Some people just had particular tastes and she'd found it to especially be the case when it came to breakfast. Something about a person's body and mind feeling particular to what the system can handle while it was still waking up though she noticed Moe had a peculiar pallet throughout the day.
"Hm," she tapped the pen against her lips in thought. "We have a cranberry, a banana nut, and a chocolate muffin left over from yesterday in the fridge. They're wrapped in plastic so they won't be dried out," she reassured.

“Cranberry sounds good,” he tells her after taking a quick second to think. Yep, she’s definitely getting a good tip this morning. She has the service with a smile thing down to an art form. Seriously, if she did her job any better she’d have to be telepathic so she could know what customers wanted before they even asked. He decides to try to get her to serve him whenever he comes. She never disappoints. And he doesn’t think she’ll mind, not with how he’s going to tip her.

*Callie enters from her apartment*
Her heart was racing a million beats per second as she walked through the white picket front gate into the patio seating area of Granny's. Was he here yet? Maybe she should have worn the blue sweater instead of the green. What if they ran out of things to talk about? Should she have brushed her teeth a third time before leaving the house? Could she be over reacting a bit?
Yes. The answer to the last question was unequivocally yes. Callie forced a deep breath, if only to bring on a visual calmness as she approached the glass door to the interior of the diner. The general feeling of excitement inside the diner mirrored the emotion currently causing the little goose pimples that were quickly forming on her forearms, though she doubted for the same reason. The whole town was buzzing about the clock tower, finally moving after who knew how many years. Honestly, Callie hadn't noticed until she passed a pack of school children giggling about it on her way up main street but, to be fair, her mind had been a million miles away.
Scanning the room, she could see that Christian hadn't arrived yet. Well, she was a bit early. Okay, maybe a lot early. But she had stalled herself as long as she possibly could to the point that if she hadn't left her apartment, she might have exploded. Her timeliness might have turned out to be a good thing, as it seemed like everyone in town had congregated for breakfast this morning.
To her delight, despite the larger than normal breakfast crowd, one table remained unoccupied. Her and Christian's table. The place they had first met. The delicate, freckled skin of her nose scrunched up as she made a face at herself. They had only met yesterday. Was it weird that she was already considering things 'theirs'?
Nah.
The bright grin that had been plastered across her face all morning made its reappearance and Callie quickly ran to 'their' table. It was too perfect. Dropping her bag on the seat, she settled herself in the far side of the booth. Her eyes never strayed far from the front door. She'd waited nearly 24 hours...a few more minutes wouldn't kill her. She hoped.

"An excellent choice, sir. It will compliment the apple juice quite nicely," she said in a mock snooty waiter voice as if they were at a fancy restaurant. She chuckled in amusement at herself as she took his menu and tucked it under her arm with the other. "Comin' right up."
Gail was in full multitask mode. As she rushed for the kitchen, she dropped the menus onto the pile and ripped Eva's order from the pad, dropping the pad and pen back in her apron. Gail pinned the order to the wheel and turned it toward the kitchen before heading to the back herself to retrieve the cranberry muffin. "Holy crackers, it's crazy out there this morning!" she said in passing to the cooks who nodded in agreement. She unwrapped the muffin from the plastic and placed it on a plate before heading back out to the floor. On the way, she grabbed a to-go cup, filling it with hot water before dropping the tea into it, letting it steep.
She placed the chilled cranberry muffin in front of Moe. "Here ya are. Let me know if you need anything else," she said as she stepped to the muffin display case and placed a blueberry muffin into a to-go bag. A quick turn to the back counter and she gave the teabag a couple more dips before placing it on a spoon and wrapping the string around it to squeeze out excess tea. She tossed the bag and gave the tea a couple quick stirs before placing the to-go lid on it, carrying the cup and bag to the register.
"Sorry on the delay. Here ya are, Archie. Blueberry muffin and," in her best attempt at Piccard, added, "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot." She chuckled as she rang up his order.
Keeping herself entertained and amused is what helped her make it through the craziness, especially when she-demon was in residence. Everything was going smoothly so far this morning. The customers were in a pleasant mood and the delays caused by the unusual busyness went mostly unnoticed in everyone's distraction with the clock and catching up with their fellow townfolk.

"An excellent choice, sir. It will compliment the apple juice quite nicely," Gail tells him a fake fancy waiter kind of voice. The both chuckle at her joke. His own laugh surprises him. He doesn’t usually laugh that often. Another good reason to give the waitress a good tip. If he keeps finding reasons he’ll end up going bankrupt. "Comin' right up."
Gail is true to her word, coming back so quickly that he wonders if she ran when she was out of sight of the customers. "Here ya are. Let me know if you need anything else," she says.
“Thanks,” he says as she moves off, already going to serve the next customer. He finds himself wondering how she has time to breathe. He takes a bit of his muffin as his left hand strays to his pocket, fiddling with his marble again. He sets the muffin down before taking a swig of his apple juice. And then it hits him how much of a kid he is, sitting up by the counter with his muffin and apple juice while he plays with his marble. The whole town should feel safe with a fireman like him. He makes a conscious effort not to swing his legs as he eats. He does let his mind wander though and is soon lost in thought about that stupid clock tower again. He still can’t figure it out. But he’s equally powerless to stop thinking about it. He moves the marble round and round between his fingers and he eats and thinks, lost once again to his own thoughts.

Ruby grumbled under her breath as she wrestled with the diner's sandwich board. Not like they really needed a sign out front proclaiming that they were open this morning- the place was already packed to capacity. But she had already been reamed out by Granny "Doesn't Listen When The Hospital Tells Her To Take It Easy" Lucas for it twice and after last night, she was all argued out. The sign finally settled into position, Ruby closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. It was going to be one of those massive headache days. She could feel it.
A soft whine interrupted her self-hosted pity party. Ruby's eyes opened again and searched for the source, finally seeing the dalmatian dog secured to the picket fence. Archie must have come in while she was lugging the unnecessary, super sized sandwich board from hell from the back alley.
Glancing into the windows of the diner, she figured they must have everything under control in there. Things just didn't get out of control when you worked with Gail and Ruby was sure that they wouldn't miss her for five minutes.
With a sign, she plopped down on the ground next to Pongo. The dog's tail began to wag furiously and an excited wiggle worked it's way through his muscular frame.
"Oh no. Don't even try. I'm in a terrible mood and I intend to stay that way." Ruby informed the pup, a mock sterness in her voice. A sloppy kiss on the cheek rewarded her for her trouble. When that went unrecognized, Pongo persisted by leaving more puppy kisses. Ruby laughed, scratching him under the chin, "Okay okay. You win. ...For now."

Archie
"If that's the going pay for releasing you from uncomfortable conversations, you can call me whenever and I'll come runnin'," Archie chuckled, glad she didn't seem bothered that she'd had to rescue him from Mr. Gold. "I'll have your order in a couple minutes," she said, before dashing off to take and fill the orders of the other customers packed into the diner. As he waited, Archie watched waitresses move around in a flurry of activity, trying to serve all their patrons before they got impatient. He surveyed the diner, trying to convince himself that he wasn't trying to spot Ruby in the crowd, though that would be an outright lie.
"Sorry on the delay. Here ya are, Archie." Archie jumped slightly, suprised that Gail was back so soon. He'd expected it to take her much longer, what with how crowded everything was. "Blueberry muffin and," "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot." He chuckled as she quoted his favorite Star Fleet Captain.
"Thank you Gail. And don't worry, it wasn't a delay. You were actually much quicker than I expected." He pulled out his wallet, paying for his meal and leaving the appropriate tip, before exiting the diner. He'd love to stay and chat with her, but both he and Gail were far too busy for that.
As soon as he stepped foot outside, he froze, shocked to find Ruby right next to the fence, petting Pongo. Normally that wouldn't have phased him; he was used to people loving on his dog at every opportunity. However, Ruby was the one petting his dog, and he had no idea what to say to her; knowing he'd get tongue-tied just saying hello if he wasn't prepared to see her.
"Oh no. Don't even try. I'm in a terrible mood and I intend to stay that way." She was in a terrible mood? Why, what was wrong? No, he shouldn't bring that up. He didn't need to go all psychiatrist on her, especially when she had been talking to his dog about it instead of him. Pongo licked Ruby's face, knowing how to handle the situation much better than his human owner. "Okay okay. You win. ...For now."
Realizing he needed to speak up at some point; preferably before Ruby realized he'd overheard her discussion with Pongo, Dr. Hopper finally found his voice. "Hello Ruby," he greeted, miraculously managing to keep from stuttering. "I think Pongo's excited to see you." Almost as much as his owner, the thought slipped through his head. "So, um, how are you doing?" He tried to keep the concern out of his voice, because he knew how she was doing. Something was wrong, and he wondered if she'd confide in him or not. Archie hoped Ruby would let him help her, if only because he hated imagining her having a bad day.

"Sorry on the delay. Here ya are, Archie. Blueberry muffin and,""Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.", she heard the waitress' voice behind her, serving another customer. Has she really forgotten her or was this kind of an annoying morning-joke to ignore her? As if she would need hours to read their insufficient offer on their menu... "Thank you Gail. And don't worry, it wasn't a delay. You were actually much quicker than I expected.", the man behind answered to the waitress. Vanessa couldn't help uttering a disparaging laughter, but didn't comment on it further. Maybe she was too tired yet.
"Well, if it's not too much of trouble for you, I'd like to eat something before it's lunchtime, my dear.", she lastly turned around with a plastic looking smile and at the same time evil sparkle looking eyes on the waitress. Vanessa also realized that the Diner has become an assembly area since she just sat there and looked down at the menu. Oh that poor little gal, how shall she manage that, Vanessa thought with a sarcastic smile.

He is jolted out of his thoughts yet again when the woman next to him laughs. "Well, if it's not too much of trouble for you, I'd like to eat something before it's lunchtime, my dear," she says. He frowns. His day would be going just fine if it wasn’t for this rude patron. And she isn’t just messing up his day, she’s messing up the waitress’s day as well.
“If you’re so hungry, why don’t you eat that giant bag of yours,” he mumbles to himself. Though of course she is sitting right next to him and a second after he says it he realizes she probably heard him. It looks like he may have to get into an argument this morning after all.
